Never forget words while speaking in English

Do you forget words and get stuck while you are speaking in English? And have you ever realized that sometimes you forget the most common words? Sometimes, you remember words when the conversation is over. It is a common problem among all English learners. To get rid of this issue, you first need to understand why is this happening? Let's get to the root of these problems and find some solutions.

Why do you forget words?

Lack of practice! This is the only reason. But, some may argue that they read English books, watch English movies and listen to English songs, podcasts, etc. Well, by doing these things, you are just consuming content. You need to put it into practice to remember it. When you read or watch or listen to something, you are not using your mind that much. You are just observing things and trying to remember them.

What do you need to do?

What you need to do is - practice! You need to put everything you consumed into practice. You can put it into practice in the form of speaking and writing. These are the two ways in which you can practice anything you have learned. It is a very important step that many fail to realize.

If you just keep consuming content, you will never reach the level of fluency that you wish to achieve. You need to exercise your brain to make it remember words. So, practice whatever you have learned as much as you can.

How can you practice?

Well, that question has so many answers. You need to find the best way for you! Speaking is the best way to improve your speaking skills. Speak in English as much as you can. Whenever you read something or watch something in English, the first thing you need to do is learn some good words or phrases from it. The second thing you need to do is to practice it.

#1 Speaking

Let's say you watched a movie in English and you learned the word 'stubborn' from it. Great! If you just stop at this point, there is a high probability that you will forget it. But, if you practice it and use it in your conversation, there are chances that you will not forget it easily. If you don't talk in English, you can even use this new word in the sentence of your native language. So, practice as much as you can.

After watching a movie in English, you need to narrate its story in your own words to someone or just to yourself (in case you don't have anyone to practice with). Or try to record your voice and listen to it afterward. I am sure, you will be able to find some mistakes. While you do it, try to use some new words you learned from the movie. This way you will be able to practice new vocabulary and you will hardly forget that.

#2 Writing

The second way is to write it. This is really effective. Follow the same steps. Read or watch something then learn some good words from it. You can then write the summary of its story in your own words. This will actually help you a lot. Apart from enhancing your vocabulary, you will be able to improve your creative thinking and cognitive ability. You will also become more confident as you stop forgetting words and getting stuck while speaking.
