If you feel nervous while talking in English in an interview, then you are not alone. Almost everyone feels nervous as this is a very important moment in everyone's life. So, how to face interviews with confidence? There is no formula or trick to it. But you can still do your best and be prepared for the interview. Here are some important tips that will help you to face interviews confidently.
1. Stay calm
It is easier said than done. I understand, but, just think about it. You are only making things worse by being nervous. It will just hamper your thinking process while answering the questions. Don't let the nervousness take the best of you. You can only overcome challenges if you face them head-on.
2. Be respectful
The people in front of you in the interview are your seniors. You should be respectful towards them. Be polite and ask for their permission before entering the room and sitting. Address them as sir or madam. Say 'thankyou', 'please', 'may I', 'sorry', etc. whenever required.
3. Always be honest
Do not copy your answer from the internet. You may find it easy and the best technique to answer the most commonly asked questions. But, the interviewers have probably heard these internet answers thousands of times. They will know if you repeat the same thing. Instead, try to be honest. Because you are a unique person, your answers will be unique too. This will make you stand out from the crowd.
4. Practice some interview questions
Practice the most commonly asked interview questions with a friend or even with yourself. Try to answer them to the best of your abilities and keep practising. You may not be asked the same questions but you will always have something to say. Also, it will make you confident.
5. Dress right
Dressing right for the interview is very important. Sometimes the dress code is already given by the company. If not, make sure to wear clean and tidy formal clothes.
6. Learn good words
Make a list of some good words and phrases that you can use in interviews. Whenever you get stuck, try to use these words. Here are some of the words - determination, perseverance, teamwork, efforts, dedication, communication, multi-tasking, detail-oriented, etc.
7. Have a backup plan
It never hurts to have a backup plan. What if you don't get this job? What are you going to do after it? Things may not go your way always. Apply to more than one job at a time. This will give you peace of mind. Even if you don't get this job, you have other opportunities too.
